Pimp Your Avatar? What About Your Real Self!?
It’s hard to imagine that we used to live in a World without avatars, those little images that follow our names on forums, blogs, and even game consoles. They represent us online, where nobody can see our real self, and have grown to become very important during these times we live in. There are thousands of sites to make your own avatar and “pimp your avatar”, but.. what about “pimpin’ your real self”? What about looking good in real life?
The exact date when avatars made their appearance on the Internet is uncertain. In article entitled “The History of Avatars”, author Sean P. Egen writes “It’s hard to say when avatars made their debut on the net, although it appears it was almost certainly on an Internet forum or in some MUD (multi user domain) meeting place.”. Nowadays the evolution of the avatar culture has come to a point where there are some sites specializing in creating customized avatars like Faceyourmanga.com and Doppleme.com; even messaging services and search engines offer their own avatar solutions like for example the MSN Meebos.
This is all part of our culture, and fun to a point. The main thing is to avoid forgetting about our real self image. After all, we all live in the “real world”, and our bodies need proper care too. So instead of spending hours creating your avatar just the way you want it, why not look better in real life? You could take less time every day and improve your skin for example, or with an hour a day you can begin working out to get the body you want. These are all achievable goals that anyone can reach!
A cool trick to improve your real self while letting go the insane creation of avatars is to see yourself as your “ultimate avatar”. Look at yourself in the mirror, and work each day to achieve the “avatar “you’d like to be in real life. This is lots of fun too!
