3D Art From the Ruins by Gerry Judah
War art is perhaps as old as war itself. Iconic images preserve moments of triumph and tragedy; Emmanuel Leutze’s painting Washington Crossing the Delaware, Picasso’s Guernica and Joe Rosenthal’s photograph of the U.S. Marines raising the flag at the battle for Iwo Jima all evoke emotion within the viewer.
Like Picasso’s abstract paintings, Gerry Judah creates modern and contemporary art by building scale models of cities ravaged by war, such as Beirut and Baghdad and then destroying them. His abstract paintings recreate the actual destruction these cities faced and in the words of Robert Fisk cause us to ask, “was there really human life on earth?”
