Villa in Virrat, Finland by Avanto Architects

Posted by on Apr 26, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE

This villa located in Virrat, Finland and designed by Avanto Architects is reminiscent of an ice fishing hut and like an ice fishing hut, the home is insulated well and heated by wood, which makes the villa a carbon neutral building. There is also no running water and the electricity is solar powered. Fresh vegetables and herbs are cultivated on site and nearby Vaskivesi Lake is known to be a good place to catch some fish. The house is designed in a cross shape to provide four different views of this horseshoe shaped island. The exterior is all black which causes it to disappear when seen from the lake. The interior, by contrast is very light to emphasize the space inside.
