The Miracle of Ruta del Peregrino

Posted by on May 19, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE, AROUND THE WORLD

A religious phenomenon, Ruta del Peregrino, is centered and moved by the admiration to the virgin of Talpa. Also known as the Pilgrim’s Route, it spreads out at a distance of 117 kilometers. Two million people from different states of Mexico walk through the mountain range of Jalisco to experience this religious sensation each year. They start off in the town of Ameca, then go up to el Cerro del Obispo, which is at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level. Then, visitors cross the peak of Espinazo del Diablo to come down to their final stop in the town of Talpa de Allende to devote to the Virgin of Talpa with their faith and gratitude.

The goal of this project is to create greater conditions for the pilgrims and to increase the economical and social gain for this area by taking benefit of this large event. The  project’s systematic vision is to have a sustainable site with various layers of meaning. Focusing on the whole, the grand plan consists of an ecological corridor with infrastructure and iconic architectural pieces that add to the religious ritual and also aim to appeal to a broader audience and allow the route to have a flow of visitor beyond the religious.
