The Edge by Boutique Caravans
The inspiration of Mies van der Rohe Farnsworth is exemplified in a factory-built home called The Edge. Cold-formed steel, SIPs, and triple-glazed windows make up the 22′ x 42′ contemporary prefab home designed by Boutique Caravans. According to Stuart Duncan from Boutique Caravans, the Edge includes, scheme lighting, multi-room audio with iPod docks, mirror televisions, zoned underfloor heating, a fully integrated kitchen, two baths and two bedrooms.
The Edge was constructed with solar photovoltaics, a heat-recovery system, a super-insulated airtight structure, and rainwater recycling. To eliminate thermal bridging, a majority of the steel structure is outside of the SIP film.
This structure is still very rigid and strong. The Edge can be placed with sheer precision as each vertical steel columns has a removable eye to raise and place it.
With a Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes, the Edge has an amount of six levels. An adequate Nilan heat recovery and ventilation system, halogen and LED lighting, and top-of-the-line Bosch appliances were installed as a way to save energy.
Boutique Caravans makes The Edge with two or three bedrooms in a variety of layouts. This variation of layouts was created within The Edge’s two to three bedrooms. None of the interior walls are load bearing because of the strong exterior shell that allowed design fluidity.
