Cottage in Tsumari by Future-scape
A ‘Cottage in Tsumari’ provides solitude in a region ridden with heavy snowfall in Tokamachi, Nigata, Japan. The small vacation home developed by Tokyo design company Future-scape Architects is perceived as two combined structures, it includes an interior form that is detached both programmatically and physically from the outer covering. The boundaries were created to have a tetras-like framework that unevenly divided the limits of the home producing various attachments to the outside environment. ‘Cottage in Tsumari’s slatted wooden walls protrudes against the dark shell dramatically modifying the perception of space as it also contains thin spaces between each piece of wood that allows natural light to seep into the abode.
