The Doughnut House

Posted by on Aug 12, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE

The ‘Doughnut House’ by Naoi Architecture & Design Office is a single-storey private home in the rural Ibaraki Prefecture in Japan. It seeks to create a living space that’s open with borders and boundaries as its surrounded by fields and low-lying structures.

This house harmoniously blends in with the environment while still maintaining its privacy by the greenery and embankments built around the plot. A functional layout centers around a small interior courtyard and deck because of the flat nature of the site.

The spatial gravity of the house is formed since the slanted roof rises to the central courtyard. A natural atmosphere is embraced by the white-washed interior due to the exposed roof columns in the untreated wood creating a beautiful balance between solitude and nature.
