Casa Talia by Marco Giunta and Viviana Haddad

Posted by on Aug 30, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE, ITALIANS DO IT BETTER

Talìa is a fascinating place, an island on the island, where harmony is the main protagonist, thanks to the accurate restoration made by the two owners, Marco Giunta and Viviana Haddad – a young married couple of architects who formed in Milan – who decided to live here, choosing the slow living. The project of restoration has been inspired by the intimate feature of the Arabic houses in the Medina, which are peaceful places even though they are in the center of a busy town.

Like in a Moroccan riad, rooms in Talìa are independent and do not communicate, but they all face the central garden, which is an important element of the facility and is the place of encounters. Great attention has been given to the choice of materials, which are natural, ecological, and, above all, typical of the Sicilian tradition: stone walls, lime plasters, cane roof, stone and polychrome tiled floors.
