The Allen Residence by Skiles Architect
Environmental awareness exudes the Allen Residence designed by Skiles Architect in Fayetteville, Arkansas as it incorporates construction methods, materials and passive solar design. A narrow breezeway separates the two simple shed roofs at opposite slopes that characterize the home. Solar heating and a three foot overhang limits summer heating from the home’s long south facing facade. The potential for reuse is gained from the minimal exterior palette of fiber cement board and cedar slates. More environmental features portray a surmountable representation as the residence includes a geothermal heat pump with radiant concrete floors, a screen porch to shield the sun and SIP roof panels. The exterior naturally blends with the interior as the cathedral ceilings continue to the porches with its exposed laminated beams and pine decking.
