House in Horinouchi by Mizuishi Architect Atelier

Posted by on Oct 10, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE

Unique in its rectangular shape, the “House in Horinouchi” is a two-storey private home snuggled between a river and a road in Suginami, Tokyo, Japan. Mizuishi Architect Atelier developed this irregular shaped abode as it slips into the narrow corner of the site. The peaked roof is highlighted by the tapered end of the second level that juts over the base in a cantilever. A stretch of windows accommodate the second floor while the kitchen is benefited from a double height ceiling establishing sight lines to a small loft above it. Illumination of natural light seeps into the elevated areas through a large skylight. This dwelling excels in providing space and comfort with its visual extent of space both horizontally and vertically.
