Buisson Residence by Robert M. Gurney

Posted by on Oct 25, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE

The pine tree greenery of a forest in Lake Anna, Virginia embraces the Buisson Residence as its majestic long, white painted brick wall with a copper clad volume intertwines among the surrounding landscape. Architect Robert Gurney designed this home with two “L” shaped brick walls connected by an enclosed bridge where the smaller one provides as a service structure and the other creates southern and western views towards the lake and living spaces to residents. Lake views are heightened as the sleeping, living and entry areas are linearly aligned to benefit from the southern exposure of the sights. Heat is limited during the summer as the large overhangs and sensored motorized shades combine while also providing warmth during the winter. An abundance of light enters the double height entry hall on the east end while views of the lake and light is easily accessed on the west end. Fierce wind and shed water from intense storms are diverged from the sloping roof and canted front wall allowing this home to create an effortless level of comfort throughout.
