One Day Poem Pavilion by Jiyeon Song

Posted by on Nov 3, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE, ART

A visual poem comes alive with the natural changes of the seasons. The One Day Poem Pavilion designed by Jiyeon Song magically integrates the use of light and shadow in the structure including a complex array of perforations that allow light to pass through creating shifting patterns which transform into the legible text of a poem during specific moments of the year. Different shadow poems are exposed through specific alignments of the perforations according to the solar calendar. An elegant transition of theme is seen within the year: the theme of new-life is shown during the summer solstice while the motif of reflection on the passing of time comes through during the winter one. Each viewer encounters their own experience based on the time they visit it and the time based nature of the poem. Unique effects are experienced for each individual who get to embrace the powerful integration of the interchanging movements of light and shadows with the natural rotation of the Earth.
