Monster Watching Towers by Rintala Eggertsson
Rintala Eggertsson is the architect who had the honor and the privilege of designing two towers for monster watching set near the local lake in Seljord, Norway. That’s right, in this small town in Norway monsters are taken pretty seriously, in fact, in the summer of 1998, a Discovery Channel team traveled there to document the search for a mythological sea monster that had been making periodic “appearances” for over three centuries. After a fruitless search, the team headed back to America. But as one local historian notes, “local people continue to observe inexplicable phenomena in the water, and the attention has not diminished since the international expedition in the summer of 1998.” It is only ten years later that the town decided to use this mythical feature as a point of start for a development program for the area. They commissioned Rintala Eggertsson Architects to design different lookout points around the lake to ease the access for local population and visitors to experience the lake and to finally give a little shelter to the poor restless monster seekers.
