The Field of Light by Bruce Munro

Posted by on Nov 30, 2011 in ART

The field surrounding the Holburne Museum in Bath, England lights up like colorful fireflies due to the recent spectacular installation by artist Bruce Munro called “Field of Light.” This breathtaking sight consists of over 5,000 bulbs installed throughtout the grounds of the museum. Each bulb is connected through a network of fiber optic cables from each acrylic stem and are covered by a frosted sphere.

This garden of illumination isn’t the first field of light project Munro has completed. In 2004, his first one was installed in the Victoria and Albert Museum’s pirelle garden in London. Then he moved on to creating more glowing fields of light where his installation brightened 10 acres of the long knoll field in Wiltshire, England. He also illuminated the roof of the vistor’s center in the Eden Project with 6,000 bulbs and 11 external projectors in Cornwall, England from 2008 to 2009.
