Roadside Reststop by Manthey Kula Architects

Posted by on Dec 5, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE

An extraordinary blend of nature and design can be found in the quaint details of the “Roadside Reststop Akkarvikodden” designed by Osla-based Manthey Kula Architects in Lofoten, Norway. This amazing structure was meant to replace a previous restroom which was destroyed in a coastal storm. Its walls are comprised of 10 mm of corten steel  and was fused together with steel plate reinforcements. Clerestory windows bring in the gorgeous views of the mountains outside through a thick layer of glass panels. The interior is also coated with glass panels to prevent discoloration to clothes from rust. This creation is simply the most impressive outdoor toilet I’ve ever seen. Too bad it can’t be at every rest stop.
