Money Trees in the UK

Posted by on Dec 15, 2011 in AROUND THE WORLD | No Comments

The “Money Tree” phenomenon exists in several wooded areas around Cumbria and Portmeirion, UK, it is not what you think it is and it definitely cannot bring you endless fortune in your backyard. This money tree is literally the work of passersby over decade’s meticulously hammering small denomination coins into the tree trunks. This practice can be traced back to the early 1700s in Scotland where people with an illness thought sticking coins into the tree might help alleviate their sickness. Over time, this became a must do for the people passing by for a bit of extra luck.
