The Toda House by Office of Kimihiko Okada

Posted by on Dec 28, 2011 in ARCHITECTURE

The Toda House literally stands tall above all its neighboring houses in its residential perch of Hiroshima, Japan. Designed by Office of Kimihiko Okada, this two-storey building is held up by metal columns that allow residents to walk underneath into its central courtyard garden. Rooms wrap around the house in an anti-clockwise fashion and continue to rise upward. Its spandrel walls create a curvilinear shape that makes variations in its height. The restless nature of the Inland sea and the Miyajima skyline fascinate guests from views of the balconies on both ends.
