Farm in Extramedura by Abaton Architecture

Posted by on Jan 4, 2012 in ARCHITECTURE

An abandoned barn has been transformed into a family house called the “Farm in Extremadura” in the province of Caceres, Spain. Abaton Architecture made sure this structure would fit into the beauty of its natural surroundings without drastically interfering with nature. Inside, the kitchen and living room was built in a large central space around the arranged parts of different rooms. A peaceful atmosphere radiates throughout the interior with the use of basic materials like stone, water, iron and cement on the walls. The main room lets views of the surrounding valley enchant residents in the northern and southern tips of the house.

Sustainability creates a temperate environment of comfort throughout the seasons; a solar powered system with batteries generate energy during the summer and installed turbines use a channel of two streams to pass through the farm and also supply the electric current to the batteries during the winter. This home has a natural swimming pool where the water runs constantly and also serves for pasture irrigation.
