Calamita Cosmica by Gino De Dominicis

Italian artist Gino De Dominicis has created astonishing works of art that’s brought surprise and curiosity to many throughout his life. A peculiar yet fascinating sculpture he left behind before his death was the “Calamita Cosmica” (Cosmic Magnet), an outlandish sculpture of the human skeleton that rises above 90 feet. Replicating every aspect of the human skeleton except for its abnormally large nose, it now resides on display at the Museo Nazionale della Arti del XXI Secolo in Rome. It has migrated from place to place in Europe before settling in its current location. It was first introduced to the World in 1990 at the Centre National d’Art Contemporain in Grenoble, France. Then it left France and resided in the courtyard of the Palace of Capodimonte, Naples in 1996. In 2005, it had a short visit on display at the Mole Vanvitelliana in Ancona, Italy – the artist’s hometown. It traveled again to Palazzo Reale in Milan during 2007 and then moved to the front facade of the Versailles Chateau of the Parterre d’ Eau after a few months. Furthermore, it was on display at the Musee des Arts Contemporains in Hornu, Belguim and has made its final destination for now in Rome.
