Chilote, Sustainable Wool House Shoes
A mash up design that incorporates several sustainable principles that creates synergy between the local culture and the resources in Chilean Patagonia. The purchase of this product will benefit the community both culturally and environmentally. This shoe was made to stimulate and help the local crafts in spite of the fast growing new industries that are entering the region. Only renewable resources and traditional techniques were used to produce the Chilote House Shoe. Local wool from free range Patagonian sheep and tanned natural salmon skin are the only materials used in this product, the perfect representation of this simple design. Not to mention all the other benefits that comes with using natural wool, such as it insulates better than any other organic material, it self- cleans as well as completely biodegradable. The salmon leather used is a repurposed by-product of the farmed salmon industry, extremely durable and resilient; along with its flexibility and softness it is aesthetically pleasing with its natural scale patterns. Each Chilote Shoe is geo-tagged with a QR code that leads to the geographical and production details of the individuals that hand-crafted each unique piece.
