Digital Library by YTA

Posted by on Jan 30, 2012 in DESIGN

Technology integrates into the organic matter of a spare room for a family in Sao Paulo, Brazil as a part of a project called “The Digital Library.” Brazilian architects YTA incorporated their guiding philosophies of designing for the essence of materials, optimizing the elements they work with and rationalizing resources into this venture. This room was transformed into a multimedia library with pine floorboards and industrial-style lighting on the walls. Its floorboards can easily fold and unfold to allow the books and other media to be “wrapped.” A stand for a television is created once one of the boards is folded up into the wall. Various electrical sockets are merged within the lighting grid while furniture and other random items are scattered around the room. A tablet computer and online navigation system allows residents to control the video, lighting, safety, temperature and audio in this high-tech space.
