Drinking Water Running Through the Streets
Over 1 billion people in the world lack suitable drinking water. In Madrid, more than 50% of their public water fountains have been destroyed in the past 30 years. To grow awareness in hopefully resolving this issue, the Spanish art collective Luzinterruptus used the public fountains of the city to stage their astonishing installment called “Drinking Water Running Through the Streets.” In this project, they placed recycled glass containers to cascade from demolished water fountains. They spent four months collecting more than 200 glass bottles that once contained the Infantrini multiple vitamin supplement. The group then cleaned and revamped them into a illuminated installation created to bring light on the city’s public infrastructure problem.
