Liouguei Soap by Gidea Group

Posted by on Feb 20, 2012 in GOOD CAUSES

After a large typhoon destroyed a sense of life in Taiwanese culture came a beacon of hope through the Marakot Relief Project. Gidea Group was asked by the National Cheng Kung University to lead in branding and packaging of the whole project. Local women, who used to pick wax apples to support their families before the flood washed it away, now make hand made soap as a part of the relief effort. In Taiwanese culture, one’s destiny is recorded on one’s palm print. “Hand” was chosen as the central theme because in both harvesting and soap making, women work hard to support their families. All the materials selected for the soap reflect the sensation of how it feels on one’s hand. The Taiwanese sensibilities of packaging was used to help reveal the craftsmanship and quality of the product while also being a very traditional Japanese craft.
