Where the preservation of nature’s ancient characteristics, landscapes, crisp vegetation and intact villages lies a beautiful, traditional old barn with some modern touches in the O Courel mountain range of Paderne, Spain. Carlos Quintan Arquitectos designed this home with a spiral organization where the highest point is in the kitchen and the lowest is in the bedrooms. Its original thick stone walls were saved and also provides as a base for its new wooden structure. It is made from laminated wood mounted on masonry walls while its slated roof is reminiscent of the archaic buildings of the village surrounding it. The rough texture of the home’s front surface holds the stories of the traditional wooden chestnut facades that were built in it many centuries ago.
