A House in a House by De Vylder Vinck Taillieu

Once a popular tavern for traveling cyclists, a building in Rotelenberg, Belgium was slowly transformed to a residential haven where a house exists inside a house. Architecten de Vylder Vinck Taillieu wanted to create a structure that remains sustainable throughout the seasons. Brick-patterned shingles provide insulation on the northern facade and uphold the essence of the homes’ original brick construction. As a method to control the indoor climate, a glass house was built within the perimeter of the brick house. During the winter, the sliding glass wall is closed so that warmth can heat the interior, but is left open during the summer so that air can travel throughout the home.
