Boathouse Photographer’s Studio by gh3

Posted by on Mar 4, 2012 in ARCHITECTURE

This stunning glass construction is the live/work studio of photographer Larry Williams located over a boathouse in Stony Lake, Ontario, Canada. Toronto based gh3 architects responded with this design to the desire of the owner for a place with lots of natural light, creating a almost completely transparent structure made of certified Sapphire glass, famous for its clarity.

The double-height space provide the photographer with unparalleled natural illumination, while the clarity of the glazing transforms the site and surrounding vistas into a sublime environment  allowing to  produce images unobtainable in a conventional studio. The house is equipped with an automatic  blind system that creates  a second aesthetic skin,  isolating the interior for privacy and intimacy and transforming  the exterior into a gently reflective mirror of the surroundings.
