The Baixa House is located in the heart of the historical area of Baixa, Libson, converted from a “Pombalino” building into a short term rental unit. The original building was built in the 18th century; there’s been a great deal of changes and modifications over the years resulting in its heterogeneous characteristic. The design team at Jose Adriao Arquitectos focused on changing two apartments per floor to three; added an elevator as well as substitution of all infrastructures and the conservation of a substantial part of construction elements such as floor boards, the wooden ceilings in overlapping boards, internal and external tiles, window frames and doors. The result is stunning, lots of natural light, and… well, that ceiling says it all.
