Works of Nature by Rachel Denny
If you find the company of creatures reassuring, yet shutter at the thought of them mounted on your wall, Portland artist Rachel Denny has a solution. Denny combines the familiar comfort of an old sweater with wilds of nature, emphasizing our need to anthropomorphize just about anything.
“In my most recent body of work I have been exploring our relationship with nature. We surround ourselves with elements from nature in the form of manicured lawns, sculpted trees, and our domesticated companions. We bend it to our tastes and create a comfortable place from which to appreciate its unpredictable beauty.”
Starting this coming Thursday (April 5th 2012) she will be showing her latest works in a solo exhibit at Foster/White Gallery in Seattle.
