1800′s Baseball Action Photos

‘Take me out to the ballgame, take me out to the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jack, I don’t care if I never get back.’ Ahhhh the sweet tune of our old friend baseball. In a time when outs were called ‘hands,’ batters were called ‘strikers,’ runs were called ‘aces’ or ‘counts’ and gloves had no padding, was a time when baseball first stretched its glorious fame into the history books and really began owning its name as an all American past time. The JF Ptak Science Books from the New York Public Library’s digital gallery takes us back to the 1800′s in this archaic collection of photographs. You’ll find straight faced expressions, simple attire (one keeps it classy with a bow tie) and levitating balls in this flight back to the roots of the game we all know and love.
