The Turn Table Restaurant by Dodo

Posted by on Jun 6, 2012 in FOOD, GOOD CAUSES

The quick rate at how the human population is growing in cities around the world leads up to one question: How will all these people be fed? With this thought in mind, many urban planners, environmentalists and foodies have thought of different solutions. One solution is to implement urban farming into unused city space to grow food and send it to nearby grocery retailers. The Turn Table project created by the environmentalist organization Dodo is a fine example of urban farming. As a part of the World Design Capital Program in Helsinki, Finland, the project has transformed an old railway turning circle into a restaurant and farm for people to commune in a space surrounded by greenhouses, cultivation cribs and beehives. The food is grown, prepared and consumed in this space. Workshops and classes about urban farming will also be taught here to give the public a little knowledge about how we can turn our city spaces into a utopia for fine farming.
