House Like Village Loft by Marc Koehler Architects
Once an old harbor wine shop on the KNSM-island in Amsterdam, the House Like Village lies open to the grandiose beauty of the surrounding landscape while holding in a package full space and characteristics inside. A home like no other, Marc Koehler Architects designed it as ‘a group of houses inside the house.’ It almost wouldn’t be a surprise to see a tiny car driving through the “streets” of this home due to the multifunctional living spaces that intersect between the rooms. These narrow spaces also bring light directly into the core of the home to provide breathtaking views of the water outside. The bedrooms, bathrooms and storage are all compressed into smaller zones to allow more expanse to the open space. Upstairs, activities like cooking, dining and office work are common on the ‘roof terraces’ where intimacy and privacy continues the brilliant functionality of the space.
