Casa 34, designed by Izquierdo Lehmann Architects, is a country house that grants its inhabitants a glorious view of Lake Rupanco in Chile. The rectangular abode is simple in design, but needs not be complicated to achieve purposeful accommodation for its guests. The exposed black rafters of the roof match the color of the laminate wood beams that frame window after window of the building’s west façade. On the opposite side of the lengthy residence, wooden slats compose the external wall and the heavy materiality highlights the ethereal glisten of the scenic lake. A concrete chimney in the middle of the residence is a beacon for Casa 34, and serves as a central hub for the rest of the house’s organization. Aside from the main bedroom, there are five pairs of guest rooms and baths, each blessed with a private section of the house, a contrast to the spacious living room shared by all. A wall of stone, following the contour line of the prairie’s terrain, sits at higher elevation than the house’s foundation and effectively conceals the pavilion silhouette of Casa 34 from outsider’s view.
