Abandoned Bikes in New York City

View all 15 Photos

Laura and Ryan of Smith & Ratliff bring a fresh perspective to New York’s bike debris. Rather than viewing abandoned bicycles as “eyesores,” they’ve taken to considering the twisted, metal forms as art. Likening chains to Richard Serra’s work, and frames to John Chamberlain’s, the couple successfully convinced at least this blogger to appreciate bikes as street art.

Janet is a senior at Kenyon College studying English with a Creative Writing emphasis. She has a particular affinity for American literature, and enjoys discovering the narrative(s) behind a piece of art. GBlog is her blogging debut, and she is grateful for newfound exposure to objects such as the “Bug Light.” (She favors the stately praying mantis.)
