The problem with coat stands is that tend to only serve winter coats and hats in order to look elegant and appropriately dressed. What about other personals such as purses, keys, or towels? Matthew Plumstead, founder of McCarty Quinn Design Studio, solves this conundrum with the Clip Tree, a reductive but functional piece that accommodates a range of objects that need hang space. The backbone of the Clip Tree is a simple wooden dowel – either maple or walnut – that runs slightly over two feet in length, and its branches are a variety of small clips and platforms that suits a number of needs. Small knobs and loops are useful for hanging items, while hooks and larger planar surfaces can serve as arms to support the rest of the dichotomy. These accessories are produced as rubberized clips that easily snap onto the central dowel in an easy, convenient fashion. The entire piece is mounted onto a wall, another advantage over the less economic coat stand that makes the Clip Tree a luxury that everyone (even those living in city apartments!) can afford.
