“Crusted” Porteur Bicycle by Vitor Machado

Posted by on Sep 18, 2012 in DESIGN, TWO WHEELS

There is something exceedingly classic and European about vintage bicycles that helps recall the age of innocence. Perhaps the carefree image is of a daytrip along a green hillside of Austria, or the romantic memory is of riding on the porteur of a bike pedaled by a childhood sweetheart. “Crusted” – a bicycle with a frame type that has been made since the 1950s – delivers a timeless statement by evoking the days of the past. Portuguese designer of “Crusted,” Vitor Machado, founded iNBiCLA to share his love for bicycles and to spread the nostalgic appreciation of the vehicle. His work on “Crusted” needs no bells or whistles for embellishment; only a simple wooden crate with “iNbiCLA” burned into the wood sits on the porteur bicycle. The black frame and the neutral accents of the Tabor saddle and braided rope over the handlebars lend the bicycle a refined look, and the lightness of the frame makes the bicycle urban chic. A piece of leather stitched with the same textured rope over the stem completes the detailed, crafted style of the bike that makes it one short ride away from yesteryear.
