KAPPÔ, Bicycle Storage Solution by Mikili

Posted by on Sep 18, 2012 in DESIGN, HOME DECOR, TWO WHEELS

Bicycles are no longer just a form of transportation. They have transcended into a new genre of design that boasts style, status, and the slightest hint of swagger. Berlin-based Mikili, a coterie of design aficionados and cycling hobbyists, recognizes the new evolution of the bicycle and has created KAPPÔ as an appropriate response. In the same way that the bicycle has taken on several new roles, KAPPÔ is similarly a hybrid. The wall-mounted sculpture doubles as shelving for small books and knick-knacks as well as a display unit for a bicycle. Neither a bike stand nor a bike rack, KAPPÔ has a Boolean-ed slot is a perfect cubby for the top tube, allowing the rest of the frame to hang in dramatic balance and display. The simplicity and understated look of the KAPPÔ, which comes in a variety of finishes to match any bike, gives the appearance of the wooden piece a supporting role in order to shine the spotlight on its function: transforming the mundane vehicle into a portrayal of art and craftsmanship.
