4th Dimension Table Clock by 22 Design Studio

Posted by on Sep 25, 2012 in DESIGN, HOME DECOR

Scientifically speaking, the space-time continuum is the unification of the three spatial dimensions and time as the fourth. Designers Sean Yu and Yi-ting Cheng of 22 Design Studio have distorted this technical definition in favor of an artistic representation, as manifested in their 4th Dimension Table Clock. The gray concrete clock demonstrates flexibility in height, width, and depth through its spiral staircase form on which the hands of the clock lightly travel. The interplay of dynamic levels and light and shadow help showcase the relationship between time and space. The materiality of the piece itself – the manner in which concrete turns a darker gray through handling and use – is another expression of the correlation between the passage on time and its impact on the physical world. The design of the clock, a clever thought experiment, is also available in its wall clock variation on GSelect.
