As part of Mountain Climbers, a charitable project that invites each of 40 creatives to salvage and transform a ski gondola into an art piece, Adrien Rovero chooses to add warmth to the cold structure of the ski gondola. The sage green gondola, christened Rock, takes on a new life as a garden rocking chair with enough seating for a family of four. The form of the gondola remains, but Rovero has added metal runners that both complement the metal frame of the ski gondola but add the rustic functionality of the comforting chair. Planks of a light-colored wood line the interior of the carriage, bringing a handcrafted quality to an object with industrial roots. All of the pieces produced for Mountain Climbers will be auctioned by Christie’s, and proceeds will go toward the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Switzerland. Images © Annik Wetter.
