Interior designer Yukio Kimura of kräf•te implements a new interpretation of connections in the renovation to K Residence in Osaka, Japan. Connection, in this case, implies a relational quality and internal behavior. As such, the shifting of the axis of the more public spaces distances these rooms from the private, fulfilling two programmatic requirements of the client. The mortar of the structural pillar that divides the kitchen area from the living room is a material connection to the kitchen counter as well as the bathroom furnishings. The green, in all respects of the word, seating serves as an organic connection to the botanical garden that covers an entire wall of the house.
