Geolamp by Giacomo Mezzadri

With its foundation in a mathematically proven geometry, Geolamp brings the calculated form of mathematics and the pleasurable aesthetic of good design. Italian Giacomo Mezzadri, the creator of the half-globe, sticks to simple construction for the hanging pendant lamp. The dome of plywood triangles is fabricated in a process that represents the reversal of peeling an apple, a spiral that fits perfectly into half a geodesic dome. The lamp is unadorned, but carries subtle nuances in the grain of each plywood triangle, and how the directionality of one piece interacts with those of its neighbors. When brought to life with electricity, Geolamp’s faceted form casts an array of interesting shadows, and performs double duty as it diffuses the spotlight into a soft glow.
