PUBLIC WORKS
There is a new meaning to the “public” in PUBLIC WORKS, a poster exhibition created by – you guessed it – PUBLIC, a San Francisco-based bicycle company founded by Rob Forbes, the visionary behind Design Within Reach. However, PUBLIC WORKS extends its reach by inviting a group of 27 international graphic designers and artists to portray their conceptualization of the term “public,” and of course, the bicycling culture in an urban environment. In one poster, a rainbow path composed of bicycle wheels paints the white space; in another an anthropomorphic, yet cartoonish representation of a car and a bicycle share the road. The brightly colored works are currently on exhibit as Flos’ SoHo store through Thursday of this week.
