From the streets of Tokyo, Japan, the curved concrete walls of Breeze House seem monolithic, but the truth is that these artistic, sculptural pieces are the flower petals protecting a delicate bloom within. Designed by Artechnic, the urban residence is a terraced house with large open spaces and opportunistic views of a private courtyard. The entrance from ground-level is reminiscent of Carlo Scarpa’s Castelvecchio, such that the large wall conceals a climbing stair to the interior. Inside, a hanging staircase boasts vertical elements that draw attention to the house’s height. A careful use of metal, wood, and stone create a natural feel to the space, which match the soft, diffuse glow of the garden floodlights that illuminate the exterior of the house by night.
