Dave de Witt is known in the skateboarding world for being a master at building skateboard ramps, but his artistry and craft have taken him into a more creative direction. As the designer and creator of Sk8 Shades, he takes old skateboards and converts them into stylish wooden frames that are both colorful and edgy. Each pair requires about four hours of process, from the pressing together of the veneer to the molding of the shape of the sunglasses. The characteristic stripes of colors on the frame are a tribute to the sport’s boards, and include canary yellows, hot pinks, ceruleans, and a number of other colors across the rainbow.
