Piatti Tipici by Marta Lavinia Carboni

  • Piatti Tipici – literally, “typical plate” – makes use of the staple dishes of eleven different ethnic cuisines as the didactic foundation of their designs. Artist Marta Lavinia Carboni identifies food as a cross-cultural connection and maps the culinary components from each region to a specific color and pattern. The mesmerizing and patterned designs are created as decals on ceramic plates handcrafted by Puzzo. While the plate for Morocco features overlapping green and fuchsia polygons, the design for Italy’s is composed of a number of red and orange circles arranged concentrically. The patterns are visually stunning, and are a beautiful complement to whatever deliciousness the plates are destined to hold.
