New York in Black by Christophe Jacrot

Posted by on Nov 21, 2012 in PHOTOGRAPHY

New York: the city that never sleeps. But what if it is forced to? Photographer Christophe Jacrot has captured the soulful, sometimes melancholy, city in his newest series, New York in Black. The collection of photographs tells a story of fateful solitude amidst the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. Each photograph captures a contrast between the enveloping darkness and a few rays of light penetrating the black cloak. The eerily purple neon glow from a streetlight and the singular light from a hot dog stand make for poignant stills that have muted the busy city to a whisper in the dark.
