Extra.ordinary Objects by Domingo Seminario de Col

As artist Domingo Seminario de Col discovered, necessity begets innovation. His search for inventive design from functional solutions in South America yielded over 50 ideas from the locals, four of which Seminario de Col repurposed as “upgrades” for Extra.ordinary Objects. Compare-and-contrast images document the original and Seminario de Col’s more refined version. A simple idea such as a makeshift doorstop from a wooden block developed into a pinewood and marble block that functions both as a doorstop and decorative door-hang. A suspended cable with bulb sockets on the streets of Madrid gave birth to an elegant lamp design. Other pieces in the collection include a felt and marble door-closer counterweight, and a lacquered metal and pinewood shelf.
