You throw on your insulated flannel. Lace tie your boots. Grab the warmest hat you own. Then venture into the piercing winter air, ax in hand. The crack of your ax meets the hollow echo of seasoned wood, splitting with ease, and you smile. Mountain man moment.

Zai Skis of Switzerland has come in to mingle at the cozy lodge hearth, asking designer Kacper Hamilton to help them create a one of a kind ax. The Zai Core Axe has a unique design of its slim, lightweight handle where carbon fibre zaiira is set between two layers of ash wood. They build their skis with the same philosophy in using these natural local materials. The carbon fibre zaiira provides strength in the center protected by its beautiful finish of ash wood. The two high carbon steel heads are interchangeable, making it easier for traveling also giving you freedom to switch the blade out for a specific task. With a simple turn of the integrated quick release system, you can be sharpening the blade one minute and pop it back on to split wood the next.

I find a way to fearlessly provoke your senses and take you by the heart to whatever it is I’m writing about. My sweet spot is creative writing, but for the last 20 years I have been providing freelance content for publications on sustainability and green practices, design, architecture, fashion, and non-profit charity. Recently all wrapped up in producing my first book. I have bounced from NYC to Indianapolis, but my true home is a lovely small town in Central Pennsylvania where there’s a legit drive-your-tractor-to-school-day.
