As the brunt of the winter descends upon us, skiing becomes a great sport with which to appreciate the cold weather forecast. Design studio Atelier Kastelic Buffey has taken to designing chalets in Collingwood, a popular ski location in Ontario, and their project Maison Glissade wonderfully captures the best of the season. Just as a skilled skier glides effortlessly to carve graceful curves along the hillside, so too does Maison Glissade represent a peaceful practice. The wooden façade of the chalet is a quiet counterpart to the snowy hills, and the interior of the residence speaks of the same. Whitewashed walls, a warm oak floor, and plenty of glazing – which mainly depicts white scenery anyway – embrace the purity of snow and the white of winter. Nevertheless, the setting is made intimate by plush cream sofas and bright orange chairs seated at the dining table. The open-plan first floor contrasts the upstairs, which is divided into private bedrooms for an even more introspective experience.
