Semaphor/Oblique Dominoes

  • Who needs video games and smartphones when good ol’ fun and games can entertain? Dominoes, a forgotten classic, inherently encourage visual understanding, graphical patterns, and physical connections, all of which are conducive to design. A partnership between Derek Welsh Studio and Graphical House gives the typical set of rectangular blocks two exciting variations: Semaphor/Oblique. The first of these projects the motif of flag signaling and communication onto the blocks, each of them etched with traditional semaphore patterns instead of being printed with white dots. The second refers to a shearing of the rectangular shape to form parallelogram modules, which make the tiling of pieces much more exciting than the norm.
