The satellite view from Google Earth may look like a bunch of chaos to the untrained eye, but artist Lu Xinjian extracted geometric patterns and extrapolated colorful designs from the topological inspiration. City DNA is an artistic abstraction of the city plans of common cities, ranging from Paris to Madrid and straddling continents from Manhattan to Beijing. Surprisingly, with the guidance of the hues that Xinjian uses in his works, it becomes easy to discern the unique city grid of these famous locals and makes urban planning an accessible and understandably aesthetic practice to the onlooker.
